Clean SL

What comes to your mind the very instant you hear the word “Clean SL” is something that contributes to maintaining the cleanliness of the surrounding environment and nature of Sri Lanka. Of course, this project is working intending to clean the environment as well as carry out proper waste disposal methods. In addition, another significant thing about this is that it works with a particular focus on the cleanliness of the coastal areas of Sri Lanka.

Waste dumped into the ocean through waterways due to the lack of proper waste management can be considered an issue that poses threats to the bio-diversity of Sri Lanka. This project was initiated in the previous year by the Rotaract in RID 3220 with the primary intention of focusing on water pollution and coastal environment conservation. This was also launched with the purpose of mitigating issues like threats to marine species like coral reefs, which help save us from disasters like a tsunami.

In this year’s CleanSL project, all our Rotaract members are attempting to provide appropriate and sustainable solutions for major issues like drawbacks in the waste management, which is currently in force within Sri Lanka, and the absence of a proper method for recycling waste. The Rotaract clubs of Alumni of University of Moratuwa, Centennial United, Chunnakam, General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University, Hatton Kotagala, Kelaniya, Negombo, Pamunugama, University of Moratuwa, University of Peradeniya and Uva Wellassa University – Badulla. 

This project is being carried out under several phases by covering Rotary Focus areas like sustainable development goals, Community Economic Development, and Environment, with the help of a few renowned partners, namely: Mitsubishi Corporation, Marine Environment Protection Authority, Green Building Council of Sri Lanka, and One Among Trees.

An awareness programme made observatory visits while commencing the monitoring of the Weligama area in September 2021 under Phase 1, which was planned amidst several discussions since the beginning of the year. Likewise, a public awareness programme was conducted on the 23rd of January, where the public was introduced to the basic concept called 4R. The main objective of this was to reduce the quantity of plastic and polythene garbage that are being discharged into waterways on a daily basis by way of increasing the public awareness on the areas of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Restore.

Since this year’s CleanSL project primarily concentrated on coastal areas, our team was able to carry out two beach cleaning campaigns. This beach cleaning campaign was held on the 21st of both April and March, where our fellow Rotaractors were able to remove a large quantity of plastic waste on the beach with the support of the residents.

Subsequently, necessary arrangements were made to remove the waste accumulated in the waste traps, which are installed to prevent the flow of garbage to the ocean. Since the waste traps need to be cleaned constantly for an extended period of time, we were able to get the support of regional institutions for the said task. Not just in the coastal area, but cleaning work is currently in progress in several canals in the Hatton area as well. This shows clearly that we, too, work our level best to maintain the cleanliness of our water resources throughout the country.

As another milestone in Sri Lanka and Maldives Rotaract history, an underwater cleaning campaign was held on 26th April 2022 in the Unawatuna coastal area in which more than a quantity of 500kg of waste was able be removed through the efforts of 100 Rotaractors. It is no doubt that the residents and many others praised this entire programme.

We work towards not just protecting the Indian Ocean and conserving the marine environment but making a change in the lives of the residents through this CleanSL project, which is also organized with the collaboration of a large number of governmental and non-governmental organizations in the Weligama area!

“Clean SL”, යැයි පැවසූ පමණින්ම ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය පරිසරය, ස්වභාව ධර්මය අපේ අවට වට පිටාව පිරිසිදුව පවත්වා ගැනීමට දායක වන වැඩසටහනක් ලෙසට ඔබට හිතෙන්න පුළුවන්. ඔව්, සැබැවින්ම පරිසරය පිරිසිදු කිරීමේ අරමුණින් යුතුව මෙන්ම කසළ බැහැර නිරීමට නිසි ක්‍රමවේදයන් සකසමින් ක්‍රියාත්මක වන ව්‍යාපෘතියක්. නමුත්, වෙරළබඩ ප්‍රදේශ කෙරෙහි අවධානය යොමු කරමින් කටයුතු කිරීම මෙහි වන සුවිශේෂීතාවයකි.

නිසිලෙස අපද්‍රව්‍ය කළමනාකරණය නොකිරීම හේතුවෙන් ජල මාර්ග ඔස්සේ, සාගරයට අපද්‍රව්‍ය එක් වීම, දූපතක් ලෙසට ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ජෛව විවිධත්වයටද හානි ඇති කරන ගැටලුවක් ලෙසට දැක්විය හැකිය. එහිදී සුනාමි වැනි ව්‍යසනයන්ගෙන් අපව ආරක්ෂා කිරීමට උපකාර වන කොරල් පර වැනි සාගර ජීවීන්ට ඇති වන තර්ජනයන් වැනි ගැටලු ද අවම කිරීමේ අරමුණින් යුතුව ජල දූෂණය හා වෙරළබඩ පරිසරය සංරක්ෂණය කිරීම සිය මූලික අභිලාෂය කොටගෙන රොටරි අන්තර්ජාතික දිස්ත්‍රික්ක 3220 හි රොටරැක්ට් විසින් “CleanSL” ව්‍යාපෘතිය පසුගිය වසරේ දී ආරම්භ කරන ලදි.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාව තුළ ක්‍රියාත්මක වන අපද්‍රව්‍ය කළමනාකරණයේ දුර්වලතාවයන් හා කසල  ප්‍රතිචක්‍රීකරණය සදහා නිසි ක්‍රමවේදයක් ක්‍රියාත්මක නොවීම වැනි ප්‍රධාන ගැටලු සලකමින්, ඒවාට උචිත තිරසාර විසදුම් ලබාදීමට මෙවර CleanSL ව්‍යාපෘතිය තුළින් අපගේ රොටරැක්ට් සාමාජික සාමාජිකාවෝ උත්සුක වෙමින් සිටිති. මෙහි දී මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය Alumni of University of Moratuwa, Centennial United, Chunnakam, General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University, Hatton Kotagala, Kelaniya, Negombo, Pamunugama, University of Moratuwa, University of Peradeniya and Uva Wellassa University – Badulla යන රොටරැක්ට් සමාජවල සත්කාරකත්වයෙන් මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය ක්‍රියාත්මක වෙයි.

තිරසාර සංවර්ධන අභිමතාර්ථ මෙන් ම ප්‍රජා ආර්ථික සංවර්ධනය හා පරිසරය යන රොටරි මූලික අරමුණු ආවරණය වන පරිදි Mitsubishi, සමුද්‍රීය පරිසර ආරක්ෂණ අධිකාරිය, Green Building Council of Sri Lanka, One Among Trees යන ආයතනවල සහයෝගය ඇතිව මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය අදියර කිහිපයක් යටතේ ක්‍රියාත්මක වේ.

වසර ආරම්භයේ සිටම විවිධ සාකච්ඡා මැදින් සැලසුම් කළ මෙහි පළමු අදියර ලෙස ප්‍රජාව දැනුවත් කිරීමේ වැඩසටහනක් 2021 වර්ෂයේ සැප්තැම්බර් මාසයේ දී මාතර වැලිගම ප්‍රදේශයේ දී නියාමනය කිරීම ආරම්භ කරමින්, නිරීක්ෂණ චාරිකා කිහිපයක්ම සිදුකරන ලදි. එලෙසම ජනවාරි 23 වැනි දින ප්‍රදේශවාසීන් චැනුවත් කිරීමේ වැඩසටහනක් පවත්වන ලද අතර එහිදී මූලිකව ම 4R සංකල්පය පිළිබඳව ප්‍රදේශවාසීන්ව දැනුවත් කරන ලදි. Reduce(භාවිතය අවම කිරීම), Reuse (නැවත භාවිතය), Recycle( ප්‍රතිචක්‍රීකරණය) හා Restore(නැවත ස්ථාපිත කිරීම) යන අංශයන් පිළිබඳව දැනුවත් කිරීම තුළින් ජල මාර්ගවලට දිනපතා එක් වන ප්ලාස්ටික් සහ පොලිතීන් ප්‍රමාණය අවම කිරීම මෙහි මූලික අරමුණ විය.

මෙවර Clean SL ව්‍යාපෘතිය තුළින් සමුද්‍රාසන්න ප්‍රදේශ පිළිබඳව වැඩි අවධානයක් යොමු කොට තිබූ බැවින් වෙරළ පිරිසිදු කිරීමේ වැඩසටහන් 2ක් ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමටද අප කණ්ඩායම සමත් විය. ජනවාරි 21 සහ මාර්තු 21 යන දිනයන් හී දී මෙම beach clean up පවත්වන ලද අතර වෙරළ පුරාවට තිබූ ප්ලාස්ටික් අපද්‍රව්‍ය හා වෙනත් අපද්‍රව්‍ය රැසක් ඉවත් කිරීමට අප රොටරැක්ට් දාමාජිකයන්ට හැකිවූ අතර ප්‍රදේශවාසීන්ගේ සහායද මෙයට නොමදව ලැබිණ.

එයින් අනතුරුව සාගරයට අපද්‍රව්‍ය එක්වීම වළකමින් ඇටවුම් කරන ලද අපද්‍රව්‍ය උගුල් තුළ එකතු වන අපද්‍රව්‍ය ඉවත් කිරීම සිදු කෙරිණ. මෙය දීර්ඝ කාලීන මෙන් ම නොනවත්වා කළ යුතු බැවින්, ප්‍රදේශයේ විවිධ අයතනවල සහාය ද මේ සදහා ලබා ගැනීමට අපට හැකියාව ලැබුණි. වෙරළාසන්න ප්‍රදේශයන්ගේ පමණක් නොව හැටන් ප්‍රදේශයේද ඇල මාර්ග කිහිපයක් කේන්ද්‍ර කොටගෙන තවත් අපද්‍රව්‍ය උගුල් ඇටවුම් කිරීම මේ වන විට සිදු කෙරෙමින් පවතින්නේ, රට පුරා ඇති ජල මූලාශ්‍ර පිරිසිදුව පවත්වා ගැනීමේ වගකීමට රොටරැක්ට් අපිත් උර දෙන බව මනාව පෙන්වා දෙමිනි.

එපමණක් නොව, ශ්‍රී ලංකා සහ මාලදිවයින් රොටරැක්ට් ඉතිහාසයේ තවත් සුවිශේෂී පියවරක් ලෙසින්, දියයට පිරිසිදු කිරීමේ වැඩසටහනක් 2022 අප්‍රේල් මස 26 වැනි දින උණවටුන වෙරළ කලාපය ආශ්‍රිතව ක්‍රියාත්මක කරන ලද අතර රොටරැක්ට් සාමාජික සාමාජිකාවන් 100ක ගේ උත්සහයෙන් 500kg ට අධික අපද්‍රව්‍ය ප්‍රමාණයක් සාගර පතුළෙන් ඉවත් කිරීමටද සමත් විය. මෙය ප්‍රදේශවාසීන් ඇතුළු සියල්ලන්ගේ ප්‍රශංසාව හිමි වූ වැඩසටහනක් බවට පත් වූ බව නිසැකය.

වැලිගම ප්‍රදේශයේ රාජ්‍ය හා රාජ්‍ය නොවන ආයතන රැසකගේ ද සහයෝගයෙන් ක්‍රියාත්මක කරන CleanSL ව්‍යාපෘතිය තුළින් රට වටා ඇති ඉන්දියන් සාගරය සුරැකීම, සමුද්‍ර පරිසරි සංරක්ෂණය කිරීම පමණක් නොව එතැනින් ඔබ්බට ගොස් ප්‍රදේශවාසීන්ගේ ජීවිතවල වෙනසක් ඇති කිරීමට අපි කටයුතු කරන්නෙමු!

CleanSL  இலங்கையின் சுற்றுச்சூழலையும், நம்மைச் சுற்றியுள்ள இயற்கையையும் தூய்மையாக வைத்திருப்பதற்கு பங்களிப்புச் செய்யும் ஒரு செயற்றிட்டமாக நீங்கள் நினைக்கலாம். ஆம், சுற்றுச்சூழலை சுத்தப்படுத்துதல் மற்றும் முறையான கழிவுகளை அகற்றும் அமைப்புகளை உருவாக்குதல் என்ற இலக்குடன் உண்மையிலேயே செயற்படும் ஒரு திட்டம். இருப்பினும், கடலோரப் பகுதிகளில் அதில் கவனம் செலுத்துவது இதன் தனிச்சிறப்பாகும்.

முறையற்ற கழிவு முகாமைத்துவம் காரணமாக, நீர்வழிகள் ஊடாக கடலில் அசுத்தங்கள் வெளியேற்றப்படுவது ஒரு தீவாக இலங்கையின் பல்லுயிர் பெருக்கத்திற்கு பாதிப்பை ஏற்படுத்தும் ஒரு பிரச்சனையாகவே காணப்படுகின்றது. கடந்த ஆண்டில், றோட்டறக்ட் அமைப்பானது றோட்டரி சர்வதேச மாவட்டம் 3220 இல் “CleanSL” செயற்றிட்டத்தை அறிமுகப்படுத்தியது. நீர் மாசுபாட்டைக் குறைத்தல் மற்றும் கடலோர சுற்றுச்சூழலைப் பாதுகாப்பது, சுனாமி போன்ற பேரழிவுகள் மற்றும் பவளப்பாறைகள் போன்ற கடல்வாழ் உயிரினங்களுக்கு ஏற்படும் அச்சுறுத்தல்களில் இருந்து பாதுகாக்க உதவுவது உட்பட்ட விடயங்கள் இதில் அடங்குகின்றன.

இந்த CleanSL செயற்றிட்டத்தினூடாக, எமது றோட்டறக்ட் உறுப்பினர்கள் இலங்கையின் கழிவு முகாமைத்துவத்தின் பலவீனங்கள் மற்றும் கழிவுகளை மீழ் சுழற்சி செய்வதற்கான முறையான பொறிமுறைமையின்மை போன்ற முக்கிய பிரச்சினைகளை நிவர்த்தி செய்வதன் ஊடாக பொருத்தமான நிலையான தீர்வுகளை வழங்க எதிர்பார்த்துள்ளனர். களனி பிரதேசத்தை தளமாகக் கொண்ட இந்தச் செயற்றிட்டமானது Alumni of University of Moratuwa, Centennial United, Chunnakam, General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University, Hatton Kotagala, Kelaniya, Negombo, Pamunugama, University of Moratuwa, University of Peradeniya மற்றும் Uwa Wellassa University – Badulla ஆகிய றோட்டறக்ட் கழகங்களால் முன்னெடுக்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றது.

மிட்சுபிஷி, கடல்சார் சுற்றாடல் பாதுகாப்பு அதிகார சபை, இலங்கையின் பசுமை மேம்பாட்டுச் சபை மற்றும் One Among Trees ஆகியவற்றுடன் இணைந்து றோட்டறியின் நிலையான அபிவிருத்தி, சமூகப் பொருளாதார அபிவிருத்தி மற்றும் சுற்றுச்சூழலை உள்ளடக்கிய இத்திட்டம் பல கட்டங்களாக நடைமுறைப்படுத்தப்படுகின்றது.

ஆண்டின் தொடக்கத்தில் இருந்து பல்வேறு கலந்துரையாடல்கள் மூலம் திட்டமிடப்பட்ட இந்த நிகழ்ச்சித்திட்டத்தின் முதல் கட்டமானது, 2021 செப்டெம்பர் மாதம் மாத்தறை வெலிகம பிரதேசத்தில் சமூக விழிப்புணர்வு நிகழ்ச்சியின் ஒழுங்குமுறையுடன் ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டு பல கண்காணிப்புச் சுற்றுப்பயணங்களை நடத்தியது. மேலும், உள்ளூர் விழிப்புணர்வு நிகழ்ச்சி ஜனவரி 23 அன்று நடைபெற்றது, இது அடிப்படையில் உள்ளூர் மக்களுக்கு 4R கொள்கை பற்றி தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டது. குறைத்தல் (மீண்டும் பயன்படுத்துதல்), மறுபயன்பாடு, மீழ் சுழற்சி மற்றும் மீட்டமைத்தல் ஆகிய விழிப்புணர்வுகளை ஏற்படுத்துவதன் மூலம், தினசரி நீர்வழிப்பாதைகளில் சேர்க்கப்படும் பிளாஸ்டிக் மற்றும் பொலித்தீன் அளவைக் குறைப்பதே முக்கிய நோக்கமாக இருந்தது.

இம்முறை CleanSL செயற்றிட்டமானது கரையோரப் பகுதிகளை மையமாகக் கொண்டு இரண்டு கடற்கரையை சுத்தப்படுத்தும் நிகழ்ச்சித் திட்டங்களை செயற்படுத்த முடிந்தது. ஜனவரி 21 மற்றும் மார்ச் 21 ஆகிய திகதிகளில் கடற்கரையை சுத்தம் செய்யும் பணி நடைபெற்றது. மேலும் எங்கள் றோட்டறக்ட் குழுவினர் உள்ளூர் மக்களின் உதவியுடன் கடற்கரையில் இருந்து ஏராளமான பிளாஸ்டிக் மற்றும் பிற குப்பைகளை அகற்றியிருந்தனர்.

இதைத்தொடர்ந்து கடலில் சேறும் சகதியும் சேராத வகையில் சுத்தம் செய்யப்பட்டது. இது நீண்டகாலமாகவும் தொடர்ச்சியாகவும் செய்யப்பட வேண்டியிருப்பதால், இதற்கு அப்பகுதியில் உள்ள பல்வேறு நிறுவனங்களின் ஆதரவையும் பெற முடிந்தது. நாடு முழுவதிலும் உள்ள நீர் ஆதாரங்களை சுத்தமாக வைத்திருக்கும் எமது பொறுப்பை றோட்டறக்ட் தெளிவாக வலியுறுத்தியதன் மூலம் கரையோரப் பகுதிகளில் மாத்திரமன்றி ஹட்டன் பிரதேசத்தில் உள்ள பல கால்வாய்களிலும் அதிகமான கழிவுப் பொறிகள் அமைக்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றன.

மேலும், இலங்கை மற்றும் மாலைத்தீவுகளின் றோட்டறக்ட் வரலாற்றில் மற்றொரு குறிப்பிடத்தக்க படியாக, 500 கிலோவுக்கும் அதிகமான கழிவுகளை அகற்றும் முயற்சியுடன், நீருக்கடியில் சுத்திகரிப்பு திட்டம் ஏப்ரல் 26, 2022 அன்று உனவடுன கடற்கரை பிரதேசத்தில் தொடங்கப்பட்டது. 100 றோட்டறக்ட் உறுப்பினர்கள் இதில் கலந்து கொண்டனர். சந்தேகத்திற்கு இடமின்றி, உள்ளூர் மக்கள் உட்பட அனைவராலும் பாராட்டப்பட்ட ஒன்றாக இது காணப்படுகின்றது.

வெலிகம பிரதேசத்தில் பல அரச மற்றும் அரச சார்பற்ற நிறுவனங்களின் ஒத்துழைப்புடன் நடைமுறைப்படுத்தப்படும் CleanSL செயற்றிட்டத்தின் ஊடாக, நாடு முழுவதும் உள்ள இந்தியப் பெருங்கடலைப் பாதுகாப்பது மட்டுமல்லாமல், கடற் சூழலைப் பாதுகாப்பதுடன், அப்பகுதி மக்களின் வாழ்க்கையையும் மேம்படுத்துவோம்.
