Illuminating Lives with the Light of Christmas

From the very first day of December, there comes a feeling that something special is about to happen. As the days get colder, the fireplace warmer, and the streets brighter, we know Christmas is just around the corner. Christmas undoubtedly marks the most wonderful time of the year. While being a joyous season where people get together to share love, care, and affection, Christmas reminds us of the importance of giving and sharing. Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa and Christmas have an everlasting chemistry that goes back many years. This year, the club mainly focused on three main projects. Thus, it will be a December to remember.

It is said that Christmas is a time for sharing, caring, and giving. The Rotaractors of Rotaract Mora took the initiative, ‘Upahara,’ to lend a helping hand to the Elders’ Home under Moratuwa Social Service Society on 17th December. We spent quality time with them, conversing and gifting them, understanding the true meaning of Christmas. The day concluded with the alluring carol singing of little children of Sudharshana Pre School. Furthermore, we plan to spend another day with the elders, celebrating Christmas with them in the last week of December.

In collaboration with Enable Lanka Foundation and Big Hearts Community, Rotaract Mora launched a sub-project under ‘Andurata Athwelak,’ named ‘Unseen Harmonies,’ creating a platform for the visually impaired to sing carols. On 23rd December, they sang at One Gall Face Mall. Indeed, the essence of Christmas unites everyone in the world, emphasizing the qualities of sharing and caring. Everyone was full of euphoria after listening to those mesmerizing voices. Also, the attendees were given the chance to go for donations to celebrate Christmas in a meaningful manner.

The General Meeting for the month of December was held as a Christmas-themed joint meeting on 17th December. The Rotaractors of the Rotary Family of Colombo West joined under one roof to celebrate Christmas. The attendees made the day colorful with their Christmas-related costumes, and at the end of the meeting, the best costume was chosen. The Presidents and Secretaries at the head table wore Santa Hats and reindeer antlers. After the general meeting, the floor was opened for fellowship and refreshments. The day was filled with great memories to cherish.

Rotaract Mora stepped into the month of December, embracing the aspiration to spread the meaning of Christmas by making the lives of our fellowmen better while celebrating the fellowship as well. Paying our gratitude to our elders, joining hands with our visually impaired sisters and brothers, showcasing their colors to the world, and endowing a good time to our Rotaractors who always rise together to serve their people, Rotaract Mora celebrated Christmas in style, making it another moment to Rise, Shine and Illuminate Lives.
