“Sustainability” A word is easy enough to understand conceptually but practically harder to implement. The Rotaractors in RID 3220 initiated the Sustainability Summit to spread knowledge on sustainability and how we, as project planners, can implement aspects of sustainability into our projects.
This Sustainability Summit consisted of three phases. The first phase of the summit included three primary panel discussions which explained what sustainability is and the linkage with the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) implemented by the United Nations. Followed by this, participants got a chance to learn from industry professionals how these concepts can be incorporated into project planning and execution.
Starting with “What is sustainability?”, the invited dignitaries, Mr. Chaminda Serasinghe (Author/ Creator of the Direct Carbon Negative Product Concept, Advocate of Climate Friendly Consumerism), Mr. Sanjaya Jayawardana ( Manager of Sustainability for INQUBE, The design, innovation, and activewear arm of Brandix) and Ms. Chathuri Edirisinghe (Head of Sustainability, Noyon Lanka) shared insights on their opinions on sustainability and how we as individuals can protect our planet and its limited resources. The first-panel discussion was held on the 22nd of December 2021 through Zoom and YouTube Platforms. It was indeed the initial step of a long journey of Sustainability.
As Mr. Chaminda Serasinha (Author, Advocate of Climate Friendly Consumerism) stated, we are the one pillar of sustainability, and our actions will influence the world.
Sustainable living should not be limited to those who earn a higher salary but should instead be accessible to everyone regardless of their social standing. Our journey of helping the community access sustainable living should start with a plan with a sustainable structure. In doing this, we can guarantee that we will impact society truly.
The second-panel discussion aimed at how we can incorporate the concepts of sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in project planning and execution. This was held on the 13th of January 2022 with well-known panelists, Mr. Sumith Liyanage ( Head of Development food refreshments, Unilever Sri Lanka Limited), Ms. Amanthi Perera ( Head of Social sustainability, MAS holdings sustainability Education and Community outreach Advocate), and Mr. Ruwantha Katugaha (Sustainability and CSR Specialist).
The last panel discussion held on the 15th of February 2022 ventured into a different area to communicate how we, as aspiring leaders, can incorporate these concepts into making tomorrow a better place for the future generations to come. Along with this, practices that could be integrated into the corporate sector to facilitate sustainable living were also brought to light. Ms. Shiromal Cooray (Chairman and Managing Director, Jetwing Travels Private Limited) , Mr. Tharindu Ameresekere (Senior Lecturer at PIM and Wisdom and Digital Branding Specialist) and Ms. Chathuri Amaradiwakara (Core-Team Member of Sustainability2040.Org. and Manager of Corporate Sustainability at Hayleys Advantis Limited) encouraged all the participants to become a sustainable leader who impacts society.
The second phase of the project encompassed a PR campaign that would help educate the general public on the concepts of Sustainability and Sustainable Leadership.
Aligned with the project, initially, clubs had to assign an enthusiastic and determined individual responsible for promoting the sustainable concepts at the club level and who was recognized as a “Green Ambassador,” and a knowledge-sharing session for Green Ambassador was held on the 5th of March 2022 by PDRR Rtn. Mohamed Husni.
The final phase, which was the most awaited part of the Sustainability Summit, comprised fruitful discussion about sustainability and sustainable leadership and activities for delegates. This event was a knowledge-sharing session with the aim of enhancing the knowledge and the capability of the youth on numerous aspects of sustainability, providing the delegates with a comprehensive perception of practical approaches to incorporating sustainability into one’s environment.
So the “Rotaract Sustainability Summit 2022” was held on the 21st of May 2022. It was focused on the following four topics, Affordable and Clean Energy by Mr. Harsha Wickramasinghe ( Deputy Director-General – DSM, Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority), Sustainable Leadership by Ms. Amanthi Perera ( Head of Social sustainability, MAS holdings), Economic and Community Development by Mr. Lahiru Wijerathne (General Manager, Modern Pack Lanka Private Limited), Sustainable Partnership with Corporates by Mr. Ruwantha Katugaha (Sustainability and Corporates Partnership Advisor) and Mr. Russel Dandeniya (Principal Architect, Russel Dandeniya Chartered Architects).
Also, this was not a conference with only sessions but also there were team activities even though the event was held on a virtual platform. So to get together all the delegates, “Sus House”, an interactive game to be played in challenge teams to round up the experience was given to the teams.
Overall, this initiative helped us as Rotaractors and individuals understand the importance of sustainability and the changes in lifestyle that we need to make as responsible human beings.
“තිරසාරත්වය” එක් වචනයක් හෝ සංකල්පයක් වශයෙන් වටහා ගැනීම පහසු වුවද එම සංකල්පය ප්‍රායෝගිකව ක්‍රියාවට නැංවීම එතරම් පහසු නොවේ. මෙකී තිරසාරත්වය පිළිබඳ දැනුම්වත් කිරීම සහ ව්‍යාපෘති සැලසුම් කරන්නන් වශයෙන් අපට අපගේ ව්‍යාපෘති ඔස්සේ තිරසාරත්ව සංකල්පය ක්‍රියාත්මක කළ හැක්කේ කෙසේ ද යන්න පිළිබඳව දැනුම බෙදා හැරීම සඳහා රොටරි අන්තර්ජාතික දිස්ත්‍රික්ක 3220 හි රොටරැක්ට් සාමාජිකයන් විසින් Sustainability Summit 2022 ආරම්භ කරන ලදි.
මෙම සමුළුව ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් අදියර තුනකින් සමන්විත විය. තිරසාරත්වය යනු කුමක් ද, එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ සංවිධානය විසින් ක්‍රියාත්මක කරනු ලබන තිරසාර සංවර්ධන අභිමතාර්ථ හා බැඳී ඇති සබඳතාව කවරේ ද යනාදිය පිළිබඳ පැහැදිලි කිරීම් ඉදිරිපත් කළ මණ්ඩල සාකච්ඡා 3ක් මෙම සමුළුවේ පළමුවන අදියරට ඇතුළත් විය. මෙහිදී ව්‍යාපෘති සැලසුම්කරණයේ දී හා ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමේ දී මෙම ධරණීය සංකල්ප යොදා ගන්නේ කෙසේ ද යන්න, ඒ සම්බන්ධ වෘත්තිකයන්ගේ අත්දැකීම් අනුසාරයෙන් වටහා ගැනීමට සහභාගිවන්නන් හට අවස්ථාව ලැබිණ.
තිරසාරත්වය යනු කුමක් ද? යන්නෙන් ආරම්භයක් ලබා ගනිමින්, සමුළුවේ ආරාධිත දේශකයන් වන චමින්ද සේරසිංහ මහතා (Author/ Creator of the Direct Carbon Negative Product Concept, Advocate of Climate Friendly Consumerism), සංජය ජයවර්ධන මහතා (Manager of Sustainability for INQUBE, The design, innovation, and activewear arm of Brandix) සහ චතුරි එදිරිසිංහ මහත්මිය (Head of Sustainability, Noyon Lanka) තිරසාරත්ව සංකල්පය හා පෘථීවියෙහි වන සීමිත සම්පත් ආරක්ෂා කළ හැක්කේ කෙසේ ද යන්න පිළිබඳව සිය අදහස් බෙදා ගත්හ. Zoom හා YouTube ඔස්සේ 2021 දෙසැම්බර් 22 වන දින පළමුවන මණ්ඩල සාකච්ඡාව පවත්වන ලදි. සැබැවින් ම මෙය තිරසාරත්වයේ දිගු චාරිකාවක් සඳහා තැබූ පළමු පියවර විය.
මෙහිදී දේශගුණ හිතකර පාරිභෝගිකවාදය වෙනුවෙන් අදහස් දක්වන චමින්ද සේරසිංහ මහතා, මිනිසුන් වන අපි තිරසාරත්වයේ එක් ප්‍රධාන සාධකයක් වන අතර අප සිදු කරන ක්‍රියාකාරකම් ලෝකයට යම් බලපෑමක් කිරීමට සමත් වන බවට අදහස් දැක්වීය.
තිරසාර දිවියක් ගත කිරීම ඉහළ වැටුප් ලබන පුද්ගලයින්ට පමණක් අත්දැකිය යුත්තක් නොවන අතර සමාජ තරාතිරම නොතකා සියල්ලන්ට ම අත්විඳිය යුත්තක් වේ. ප්‍රජාවට තිරසාර දිවියක් ළඟා කර ගැනීම සඳහා සහාය දැක්වීමේ අපේ ගමන්මග තිරසාර ව්‍යූහයක් සහිත සැලසුමකින් ආරම්භ කළ යුතු ව ඇත. මෙසේ කටයුතු කිරීමේ දී, සැබැවින් ම සමාජයට එමගින් යහපත් බලපෑමක් සිදු වනු ඇති බවට අපිට සහතික විය හැකි ය.
එබැවින් ව්‍යාපෘති කළමනාකරණය කිරීමේ දී හා ඒවා ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමේ දී තිරසාරත්ව සංකල්ප හා තිරසාර සංවර්ධන අරමුණු අනුබද්ධ කර ගන්නේ කෙසේ ද යන්න පිළිබඳව සාකච්ඡා කිරීම දෙවැනි මණ්ඩල සාකච්ඡාවේ අරමුණ විය. 2022 ජනවාරි මස 13 වන දින සුමිත් ලියනගේ මහතා (Head of Development food refreshments, Unilever Sri Lanka Limited), අමන්ති පෙරේරා මහත්මිය (Head of Social sustainability, MAS holdings sustainability Education and Community outreach Advocate) සහ රුවන්ත කටුගහ මහතා (Sustainability and CSR Specialist) යන අයගෙන් සැදුම්ලත් මණ්ඩලයක සහභාගිත්වය ඇතිව මෙම දෙවන මණ්ඩල සාකච්ඡාව පවත් වන ලදි.
2022 පෙබරවාරි 15 වන දින පැවැත්වූ අවසන් මණ්ඩල සාකච්ඡාවේ දී අනාගත පරපුර උදෙසා යහපත් හෙට දිනයක් නිර්මාණය කරනු වස් මෙම සංකල්ප නැගී එන නායකයින් වශයෙන් යොදා ගන්නේ කෙසේ ද ලෙසට අලුත් දිශානතියකට සාකච්ඡාව යොමු විය. මේ හා සමඟ තිරසාර දිවිපෙවෙතක් සඳහා පහසුකම් සැලැස්වීම පිණිස ව්‍යාපාර ක්ෂේත්‍රයට ඒකාබද්ධ කළ හැකි භාවිතාවන් පිළිබඳවද ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලදි. මෙහි දී ශිරෝමාල් කුරේ මහත්මිය (Chairman and Managing Director, Jetwing Travels Private Limited), තරිඳු අමරසේකර මහතා (Senior Lecturer at PIM and Wisdom and Digital Branding Specialist) සහ චතුරි අමරදිවාකර මහත්මිය (Core-Team Member of Sustainability2040.Org. and Manager of Corporate Sustainability at Hayleys Advantis Limited) සමාජයට බලපෑම් සහගත වෙනසක් ඇති කිරීමේ ශක්තියක් ඇති තිරසාර නායකයෙක් වන ලෙසට සියලුදෙනාවම දිරිගැන් වීය.
මණ්ඩල සාකාච්ඡා තුනකින් සමන්විත වූ පළමු අදියරයෙන් අනතුරුව තිරසාරත්වය හා තිරසාර නායකත්වය යන සංකල්ප පිළිබඳව පොදු ජනතාව දැනුම්වත් කිරීමට සහාය වන posters, සමාජ මාධ්‍යය ජාල හරහා බෙදාගැනීමේ ව්‍යාපෘතියක් දෙවන අදියරට ඇතුළත් විය.
මෙම Sustainability Summit ව්‍යපෘතිය දියත් කිරීමත් සමඟ ම රොටරැක්ට් සමාජ මට්ටමින් තිරසාර සංකල්පය ප්‍රවර්ධනය කිරීම සඳහා වගකියනු ලබන උද්‍යෝගිමත් වූ ද තිර අදිටනක් සහිත වූ ද “Green Ambassador” ලෙස හඳුන්වනු ලැබුවා වූ ද සාමාජිකයෙක් පත් කර ගැනීමට රොටරැක්ට් සමාජවලට සිදු වූ අතර 2022 මාර්තු 05 වන දින PDDR Rtn. මොහොමඩ් හුස්නි විසින් ඔවුන් සඳහා දැනුම් බෙදාහැරීමේ සැසියක් ද පවත්වන ලදි. එහිදී ව්‍යාපෘති තුළ මෙම සංකල්පය යොදාගන්නා අයුරු මනාව පැහැදිලි කරන ලදි.
තිරසාර සමුළුවේ කව්රුත් පුන පුනා බලා සිටි අංගය වන අවසන් අදියර, තිරසාරත්වය හා සහභාගීවන්නන් සඳහා ඉලක්ක කර ගත් තිරසාර නායකත්ව ක්‍රියාකාරකම් පිළිබඳ හරවත් සාකච්ඡා රැසකින් සමන්විත විය. මෙහිදී අපගේ සියලු ක්‍රියාකාරකම් ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමේ දී තිරසාරත්වය පිළිබඳ සංකල්ප එකතු කර ගන්නෙ කෙසේ ද යන්නට ප්‍රායෝගික විධික්‍රම පිළිබඳව පැහැදිලි දැක්මක් ඔවුන් කරා ලබා දෙමින් තිරසාරත්වයේ විවිධ පැතිකඩ පිළිබඳව තරුණ ප්‍රජාවට ඇති දැනුම හා ශක්‍යතාව වර්ධනය කිරීමේ මූලික අරමුණ සහිතව මෙම වැඩසටහන දියත් විය.

තවද, මෙම සමුළුව හුදෙක් සැසිවලින් පමණක් සැදුම්ලද්දක් නොව මාර්ගගතව සිදු කළ ද කණ්ඩායම් ක්‍රියාකාරකම්වලින් ද නොඅඩුව පිරී තිබිණ. සමභාගී වූ සියලු දෙනාට සිය අදහස් බෙදාගැනීමට අවස්ථාවක් ලබා දීමේ අරමුණින් “Sus House” යන කණ්ඩායම් ක්‍රීඩාව හඳුන්වා දුන් අතර එය සියලු කණ්ඩායම් සඳහා තිරසාර සංකල්ප පිළිබඳව පරිපූර්ණ අත්දැකීමක් ලබා දීමට සමත් විය.
සමස්තයක් වශයෙන්, රොටරැක්ට් සාමාජිකයන් හා පුද්ගලයන් වශයෙන් තිරසාරත්වයේ ඇති වැදගත්කම මෙන් ම වගකීමක් සහිත පුරවැසියන් වශයෙන් දිවි පැවැත්මට අප විසින් සිදු කළ යුතුව ඇති වෙනස්කම්වල වැදගත්කම වටහා ගැනීමෙහිලා මෙම සමුළුව අපට බෙහෙවින් ඉවහල් විය.
“Sustainability” என்பது ஒரு கருத்துரீதியாக புரிந்துகொள்ளும் அளவுக்கு எளிதான சொல் ஆக இருந்தாலும் அதனை நடைமுறையில் செயல்படுத்துவது கடினம். RID 3220 இல் உள்ள றோட்டறக்டர்கள், நிலைத்தன்மை பற்றிய அறிவைப் பரப்புவதற்கும், றோட்டறக்டர்களாகிய நாம் எவ்வாறு நமது செயற்றிட்டங்களில் நிலைத்தன்மையின் அம்சங்களைச் உள்வாங்கலாம் என்பது பற்றிய தெளிவினை பெற்றுக் கொள்வதற்கும் Sustainability Summit செயற்றிட்டத்தினை ஆரம்பித்தனர்.
இது மூன்று பகுதிகளைக் கொண்டது. முதற் பகுதியானது மூன்று முதன்மையான குழு விவாதங்களை உள்ளடக்கியது, இது நிலைத்தன்மை என்றால் என்ன மற்றும் ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் சபையால் செயற்படுத்தப்பட்ட நிலைத்து நிற்கும் அபிவிருத்தி இலக்குகளுடனான (SDGs) தொடர்பு போன்றவற்றை விளக்கியது. இதைத் தொடர்ந்து, திட்டமிடல் மற்றும் செயற்படுத்தலில் இந்தக் கருத்துகளை எவ்வாறு இணைக்கலாம் என்பதை தொழில் வல்லுநர்களிடம் இருந்து பங்கேற்பாளர்கள் அறிந்துகொள்ளும் வாய்ப்பும் கிடைத்தது.

திரு. சமிந்த செரசின்ஹா (Author, Advocate of Climate Friendly Consumerism) கூறியது போல், நாங்கள் நிலைத்தன்மையின் ஒரு தூண், மேலும் எமது செயல்கள் உலகில் தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தும்.
நிலையான வாழ்வு என்பது அதிக சம்பளம் பெறுபவர்களுக்கு மட்டுப்படுத்தப்படாமல், அவர்களின் சமூக நிலையைப் பொருட்படுத்தாமல் அனைவருக்கும் அணுகக்கூடியதாக இருக்க வேண்டும். சமூகம் நிலையான வாழ்வை நோக்கிச் செல்ல உதவும் நமது பயணம், நிலையான கட்டமைப்புடன் கூடிய திட்டத்துடன் தொடங்க வேண்டும். இதைச் செய்வதன் மூலம், நாம் சமூகத்தில் உண்மையிலேயே தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்துவோம் என்று உத்தரவாதம் அளிக்க முடியும்.

பெப்ரவரி 15, 2022 அன்று நடைபெற்ற கடைசி குழு விவாதம், வருங்கால சந்ததியினருக்கு, நாளையை ஒரு சிறந்த இடமாக மாற்றுவதற்கு ஆர்வமுள்ள தலைவர்களாக, இந்த கருத்துக்களை எவ்வாறு இணைத்துக்கொள்ள முடியும் என்பது தொடர்பான விவாதங்கள் இடம் பெற்றன. இதனுடன், நிலையான வாழ்க்கைக்கு ஏதுவாக தனியார் துறையில் ஒருங்கிணைக்கக்கூடிய நடைமுறைகளும் வெளிக் கொண்டு வரப்பட்டன. இதில் திருமதி ஷிரோமல் குரே (Chairman and Managing Director, Jetwing Travels Private Limited), திருமதி சத்துரி அமரதிவாகர (Core-Team Member of Sustainability2040.Org. and Manager of Corporate Sustainability at Hayleys Advantis Limited) மற்றும் திரு. தரிந்து அமரசேகர (Senior Lecturer at PIM and Wisdom and Digital Branding Specialist) ஆகியோர் இணைந்து, அனைவரையும் சமூகத்தில் தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தக்கூடிய நிலையான தலைவராக மாறுவதற்கு ஊக்குவித்தார்கள்.
செயற்றிட்டத்தின் இரண்டாம் பகுதியானது, நிலைத்தன்மை மற்றும் நிலையான தலைமைத்துவம் பற்றிய கருத்துகளை பொது மக்களுக்கு கொண்டு செல்ல உதவும் வகையிலான ஒரு பொதுசனத் தொடர்ப்புப் பிரச்சாரத்தை உள்ளடக்கியது.
இந்தத் செயற்றிட்டத்துடன் இணைந்து, ஆரம்பத்தில், கழக மட்டத்தில் நிலையான கருத்துக்களை மேம்படுத்துவதற்கு பொறுப்பான ஒரு உற்சாகமான மற்றும் உறுதியான நபரை கழகங்கள் நியமிக்க வேண்டியிருந்தது. அத்துடன் அவர் “பசுமை தூதராக” அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட்டார். மேலும் பசுமைத் தூதருக்கான அறிவுசார் அமர்வு மார்ச் 5, 2022 PDRR Rtn. முகமது ஹுஸ்னி அவர்களினால் நடாத்தப்பட்டது.
Sustainability Summit செயற்றிட்டத்தின் மிகவும் எதிர்பார்க்கப்பட்ட பகுதியாக இருந்த இறுதிப் பகுதியானது, நிலைதன்மை மற்றும் நிலையான தலைமைத்துவம் மற்றும் பிரதிநிதிகளுக்கான செயற்பாடுகள் பற்றிய பயனுள்ள விவாதத்தை உள்ளடக்கியது. இந்த நிகழ்வானது, நிலைத்தன்மையின் பல அம்சங்களில் இளைஞர்களின் அறிவையும் திறனையும் மேம்படுத்தும் நோக்கத்துடன் ஒரு அறிவுப் பகிர்வு அமர்வாக அமைந்திருந்தது. ஒருவரின் சூழலில் நிலைத்தன்மையை இணைப்பதற்கான நடைமுறை அணுகுமுறைகள் பற்றிய விரிவான கருத்தை பிரதிநிதிகளுக்கு வழங்கியது.
எனவே “Rotaract Sustainability Summit 2022” மே 21, 2022 அன்று நடைபெற்றது. இது பின்வரும் நான்கு தலைப்புகளில் கவனம் செலுத்தப்பட்டது, Affordable and Clean Energy என்ற தலைப்பின் கீழ் திரு. ஹர்ஷ விக்கிரமசிங்க (Deputy Director-General – DSM, Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority) அவர்களாலும், Sustainable Leadership என்ற தலைப்பின் கீழ் திருமதி. அமந்தி பெரேரா (Head of Social sustainability, MAS holdings) அவர்களாலும், Economic and Community Development என்ற தலைப்பின் கீழ் திரு. லஹிரு விஜேரத்ன (General Manager, Modern Pack Lanka Private Limited) அவர்களாலும், Sustainable Partnership with Corporates என்ற தலைப்பின் கீழ் திரு. றுவந்த கட்டுகஹ (Sustainability and Corporates Partnership Advisor) மற்றும் திரு.ரஸெல் தெனியாய (Principal Architect, Russel Dandeniya Chartered Architects) அவர்களாலும் அமர்வுகள் நடாத்தப்பட்டன.
மேலும், இது அமர்வுகளை மட்டுமே கொண்ட ஒரு செயற்றிட்டம் அல்ல, ஆனால் நிகழ்வு மெய்நிகர் தளத்தில் நடத்தப்பட்டாலும் இதில் குழுச் செயல்பாடுகளும் இருந்தன. எனவே அனைத்து பிரதிநிதிகளையும் ஒன்றுசேர்க்கும் வகையில், “Sus House”, சவால் அணிகளுக்கிடையில் வழங்கப்பட்டு ஒரு விளையாட்டாக ஒழுங்கமைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது.
ஒட்டுமொத்தமாக, இந்த முயற்சி, றோட்டறக்டக்டர்கள் மற்றும் தனிநபர்களுக்கு நிலைத்தன்மையின் முக்கியத்துவத்தையும், பொறுப்பான மனிதர்களாக எமது வாழ்க்கை முறையில் நாம் செய்ய வேண்டிய மாற்றங்களையும் புரிந்து கொள்ளப் பெரிதும் உதவியது.
